Full signal bars do not tell the whole story
Wi-Fi bars reflect the radio link between your device and the access point, not the full speed of your Internet connection. A single low result also does not prove the fault lies with your provider.
Tammi measures download, upload and latency between your browser and Cloudflare. The test destination, device and conditions all contribute to the result.
Keep test conditions comparable
Use the same device, tool and test mode when comparing results. Note the time, location, whether you used Wi-Fi or a cable, background downloads and whether a VPN was active.
Pause large downloads or sync tasks while testing if possible. The test itself uses bandwidth; choose a time when nobody needs a stable connection for a meeting or other important task.
- Run a test where you normally use the connection.
- Move closer to the router and test again on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Record download, upload and latency, not just the highest number.
Compare a wired connection and another device
If possible, connect your computer to a LAN port on the router with a suitable Ethernet cable, then check the connection status. Do not use the port reserved for the incoming Internet connection.
If the wired result is clearly better under similar conditions, start by checking Wi-Fi coverage, interference and equipment. If the wired connection is also slow, still check the cable, adapter, computer and test destination before blaming the provider.
- Try another cable if you suspect damage or a loose connector.
- Try another device to see whether the issue affects only one machine.
- Record one change at a time instead of changing several settings together.
Read the results and contact support
Latency under load can differ from idle latency. The tool uses sample data transfers to Cloudflare; this is not an ICMP test or proof of speed to every service.
If the issue repeats, send your provider the time, current plan, connection type, device and comparison results. Do not expose Wi-Fi passwords, OTPs or sign-in details in public screenshots. There is no need to factory-reset a modem just to run the test.
